South Korean-pop girl group (G)I-DLE member Seo Soojin after being embroiled in a school bullying incident since February decided to step down from her group.
Cube Entertainment, the group’s agency on Saturday officially announced Soojin to be departing from the group effective immediately, hence reducing (G)I-DLE to five members.
The company released a statement mentioning “We bow our heads in apology for causing concern with the controversy surrounding Seo Soo-jin.” “We will provide steadfast support and do our best to ensure (G)I-DLE can present more mature music and performances.”
Earlier in February, a person made had made claims online about the singer having extorted money and valuables from others when she was in middle school. While several netizens also accused her of causing physical and verbal abuse to her schoolmates.
Although the singer denied the allegations and Cube sued the accuser as well as others who left hateful comments, actor Seo Shin Ae who attended the same school accused her of the same.
Soojin since March had halted all group activities amid the scandal.
About (G)I-DLE
(G)I-DLE had debuted in 2018 with the song “Latata”. Now with the departure of Soojin, the group consists of members Jeon So Yeon, Cho Min Yeon, Minnie, Yeh Shu Hua, and Song Yuqi.
