About Mnet’s ‘KINGDOM’
Mnet’s ‘Kingdom’ is a sequel to ‘Road To Kingdom’ and a male counterpart of ‘Queendom’. The show features K-pop groups competing in various rounds with their performances, new music, and chart record.
Golden Child, Pentagon, The Boyz, Oneus, ONF, TOO, and Verivery participated in the first edition ‘Road To Kingdom’. The show aired between April – June 2020 with The Boyz taking home the trophy.
The Lineup of KINGDOM 2021
Starting with The Boyz who was the winner of the preliminary edition ‘Road To Kingdom’. The 11 member boy group debuted in 2017 under Cre.Ker Entertainment. Since then they have managed to gain ever-increasing popularity all thanks to their far-ranging concept. The group proved they aren’t rookies anymore delving into both dark & light concepts (‘No Air’, ‘Tattoo’, ‘D.D.D‘), also exciting us with the vivacious track ‘Bloom Bloom’.
BtoB is an extremely talented group, falls under the 3rd-generation groups had debuted under Cube Entertainment in 2012. The 6 member group is known for acing everything right from ballads to R&B and pop. Due to the band’s busy schedule, they initially denied the offer to join the show. However, it was confirmed by Mnet on 29th January that the BtoB 4U (Peniel, Eunkwang, Changsub, and Minhyuk) subunit will indeed be part of the show.
Stray Kids is one of the most popular bands formed by JYP. Their participation in ‘Kingdom‘ was announced on 6 December at MAMA 2020, on the collaboration stage with The Boyz and Ateez. This formidable k-pop band debuted in 2017 and has since come a long way with their multiple MVs crossing 100M views alongside BTS. They marked their YouTube milestone with their tracks ‘Gods Menu’, ‘MIROH’ and ‘Back Door’.
SF9 short for Sensational Feeling 9 is the first dance-focused boy group by FNC Entertainment. Mnet’s idol survival show “d. o. b.” (Dance or Band), was their doorway into the world of K-pop, which compliments their captivating dance persona. Ever since their debut in late 2016, they have always been exploratory when it comes to their sound. As a group, they are quite underrated but that does not hinder their ambitions. The boys are also often seen acting in top dramas and movies.
The K-pop/Hip-hop group iKON needs no introduction. The 3rd-generation k-pop group debuted with the release of their first album in 2015, which spawned number one singles like ‘My type’ and ‘Dumb & Dumber’ leading them on the Gaon Album Chart. In the frame of demi-decade, they have managed to churn out 3 full-length albums, 3 EPs, an album compilation, and over 15 singles. The group has built a legacy of their own with unique discography including hits such as ‘Love Scenario’ and ‘Return’.
ATEEZ is a rookie K-pop group formed by KQ Entertainment who have made their mark in a short period of time. As per Twitter, they were one of the most-mentioned K-pop musical acts in 2020. They are known to deliver power pact performances with their anthemic songs. Meanwhile, they have also won at Golden Disc Awards, Mnet Asia Music Awards, and the title “4th Generation Leaders’’ by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
TVXQ’s Changmin and Yunho the second-generation K-pop Idols will play hosts for the event. ‘Kingdom’ not only has iconic collaborations but also legendary hosts!
