Kdramas are known for their variety of genres. One of such genres is legal and courtroom dramas. While there aren’t as many legal dramas as compared to the romantic and thriller genres, Law School has made its place as one of the best legal k-dramas and one of the best k-dramas of 2021.
This mystery/crime title features Kim Myung Min, Kim Bum, and Ryu Hye Young as lead characters along with dozen others whose characters are equally important in the storyline.
The Murder of Seo Byeong Ju, a Professor in Hankuk Law School
It’s the Mock Trial Class of first-year students at Hankuk Law School. Professor Seo Byeong Ju starts feeling uneasy and announces a break time. After the break, when the professor does not return to the class, Jeon Ye Seul goes to fetch him but instead finds him dead in his office. It breaks havoc as the professor dies in the building he helped to set up. A suicide note is found next to him which says, “Let me leave this hell”.
This is when Professor Yang Joong Hoon enters and proclaims that this isn’t a suicide, and goes on to explain the reason as if he had come memorizing it, so buckle up. He is going to speak a lot more throughout the show.
The police detectives interrogate everyone whose footprints were found at the crime scene. The Police enter the ongoing class and cuffs Professor Yang Joong Hoon. This news goes viral and Professor gets infamous with the title, ‘Law School Murderer’. Professor is indicted for murder but is he really guilty? Or is he framed? He has to prove his innocence. The evidence against him is strong, but if he was framed, the people behind it clearly underestimated the brains of the professor.
Bold, Fearless and Genius Professor Yang Jong Hoon
Professor Yang Jong Hoon of Law School is known as ‘Yangcrates’ by his students for his Socratic way of teaching. He used to work as a prosecutor with deceased Seo Byeong Ju. He quit as a prosecutor and became a professor because of conflict with Prosecutor Seo. He also mentions to Seo that he chose to teach to not create more lawyers like him.
Yang is now fighting in court for his innocence but there are obstacles that involve his students. Testifying in favor of their professor is going to cause them legal harm, but yang never forces them to testify. Kang Sol B is a star student who is involved in a plagiarism case, Yoo Seung Jae has hacked and stolen exam papers and Jeon Ye Seul almost commits perjury against Yang because of her abusive boyfriend. Yang knows that he will make them come around but he let them learn the lessons first, as a professor should.
The Bravest Students of Hankuk Law School
Yang’s students learned well from him and when the calamity strikes, they pull up their armors and step out into the battlefield. Han Joon Hwi has passed the second-level judiciary exam but still enters law school. He is sharp-minded and knows the law by heart. He is also the nephew of Seo Byeong Ju. Kang Sol A gets into the school through a special scholarship for poor students. Although she has little self-belief, she has a lot of potentials which Yang surely sees in her.

Seo Ji Ho is also an intelligent student, only next to Joon Hwi and Kang Sol B. They all are in the same study group with Jeon Ye Seul, Yoo Seung Jae, Jo Ye Beom, and Min Beok Gi. As Yang’s case proceeds further, all of them get involved in it. In the process, some of them find out that the same person is behind Yang’s case and their own misery as well. As things start getting personal, all of them get involved in many different lawsuits of their friends and themselves, against the powerful people.
While fighting for Yang’s case, numerous other cases are opened involving corruption, physical abuse, inciting murder, DUI, hit and run, and many more. Professor Yang, along with his long-time friend Kim Eun Suk and students, proves Yang’s innocence and finds out the real culprit.
The relation of Professor Yang and Professor Kim with their students is what an ideal relationship should be. It is not all cute and lovely, it is real. There is no sugarcoating, the professors make them go through difficult situations and make them take hard decisions all by themselves. The students develop a bond that makes them stick with each other through thick and thins. Yet, they are hard on each other when the situation calls.
